Our mattress encasements are rigorously tested and certified to comply with the Federal Register, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission 16 CFR Part 1362. This standard, established in the 1970s, addresses the risk of bedding ignition from lit cigarettes.
Testing and Certification
The 16 CFR Part 1632 standard evaluates a mattress pad's resistance to ignition by exposing it to burning cigarettes in a controlled, draft-free environment. All surfaces of the mattress encasement are tested, including smooth, quilted, or tufted locations. A secondary test involves placing the encasement between two sheets, with a total of 18 cigarettes burned to ensure accuracy.
To pass this stringent test, the cigarettes must not burn more than 0.16 inches into the material, and any resulting char marks must not exceed 2 inches in any direction. Ivytress mattress encasements have successfully passed these tests, confirming their safety and reliability.
